Rooms & Spaces
A room works well when its layout supports what people actually do there. These guides look beyond finishes and furniture to carrying, reaching, storage, power, lighting, circulation and the small routines that determine whether a space feels easy or frustrating.
Start with the routines
Kitchen Work Zones
Plan around groceries, unloading, cooking, cleanup, reach and appliance landing space rather than the floor plan alone.
A Better Laundry Room
Reduce bending, carrying and clutter by designing for the whole laundry process instead of merely fitting in the machines.
Design the Bedside Zone
Put power, light, storage and clear space where they are useful at night and adaptable later.
A different way to evaluate a room
Instead of asking only whether a room looks good, walk through the ordinary tasks that happen there. What arrives in your hands? Where does it get set down? What do you reach for repeatedly? Which doors and drawers compete for the same space? Where do cords cross the floor? Which light is used at night? These questions often reveal improvements that a finishes-first remodeling process misses.
